Dear CWA Retiree Member,

We had our last meeting on March 16 at the Union Hall.  We had a good attendance and informative meeting.  President Donny Poe, President CWA 6016, gave a presentation to the members about the progress of our Local and how he wanted help from the Retirees in the future, as the retirees basically built the Union.  He invited each of us to the monthly union meetings and any suggestions we may have, he welcomes.

Jim Curry, President of the Oklahoma State AFL-CIO, went over different bills in the State Legislature.  Unfortunately, bills that would help working families and retirees were not getting very far but hopefully the elections in 2006 would remedy that.  He explained that this election year was very important for our future.

Since our last meeting, I have been very sick with upper and lower respiratory system, pneumonia, and pleurisy.  I go back to the Doctor this Thursday and hopefully will be released.  Consequently I have used up all my time and my co-workers are sharing their time with me.  Next month is the end of session, and I can't take off.  In visiting with some of you, it was suggested that we have evening meeting for April and May and then go back to days in June.  Hopefully, members that work during the day will be able to come.

I didn't seek coverage for the hall in time for this month. Karen Thomason, Secretary-Treasurer, checked with her husband Terry, Manager of Cocina DeMino, 6022 S Western, and he agreed to reserve a room for us April 20, 2006 from 6p.m. -- 8p.m.  Chips and dip will be furnished and for those who wish to eat the cost will be less than $10.00.

An organization called Raise Oklahoma was formed to have an initiative petition drive to raise the minimum wage from $5.15 an hour and get it on the November ballot.  We will have the petitions at the retiree meeting with instructions .  As we know, you can't raise a family on $5.15 an hour.

Please try and come and bring your ideas on how to make our retiree club grow.

         -  What would you like to see our Club do,
         -  Do you want monthly meetings,
         - Do you want pot luck lunch or dinners, if so, how often,
         - What type of interests do you have and want us to do, such
as tours to museums, casinos, tickets to plays, movie
theaters, trips (we can get discounts on trips if we have
          people,
         - some retiree chapters take a day in feeding the homeless.

Please come Thursday, April 20, 2006 to our Retiree Chapter Meeting and enjoy good food, good company, and bring your ideas.

Have a wonderful Easter.

In Unity,

Dorothy Jenkins, 321-7222
Sandy Bevers, 354-3888
Karen Thomason, 787-0008
